A Conceptual Framework for Flood Impact Mitigation Through Transboundary River Management

چکیده
It is acknowledged that for successful mitigation of flood risk there a need an integrated, basin-wide approach. This particularly important in transboundary river basins cross administrative borders where the actions multiple stakeholders must be coordinated from source to mouth. The Ciliwung River, Indonesia, presents example complex urban basin crosses borders. increasing frequency and severity floods downstream capital city Jakarta has highlighted urgent more effective governance arrangements tackle flooding. However, it not clear what form these should take effective. In order understand how management can improved mitigate hazard impacts, first identify nature existing they relate interact with hazard. To do this, conceptual framework was developed. firstly outlines itself terms drivers impacts. then goes on establish associated seeks any interdependencies. Key concepts were drawn review literature, conducted using online databases search engines. included published journal conference papers as well reports by organisations which identified through searches. highlights interrelated risk, both human physical. There are also range issues related capacities, coordination institutions fragmentation plans policies within basin, overcome. Due complexities management, this provides much needed clarity facilitate future research relation peri-urban basins. sets development River Basin.

In the recent years floods and accompanying landslides, have occurred quite frequently in Romania. Some of these have been isolated and others have affected large areas of Romania. One region, which suffers from floods on a regular basis, is the transboundary area of the Crisul Alb, Crisul Negru and Kőrős River. An important objective of the NATO SfP 978016 project entitled “Monitoring of extre...
متن کاملFlood Mitigation Strategies for the Red River Delta
The increase of natural disasters and especially floods are causing economical losses to escalate. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is the global problem of climate change. Governments of both developed and developing countries are therefore concerned with increasing post-disaster liabilities in aiding recovery, repairing infrastructure damage and compensation of victims. In particular, g...
متن کاملA framework for global river flood risk assessments
There is an increasing need for strategic global assessments of flood risks in current and future conditions. In this paper, we propose a framework for global flood risk assessment for river floods, which can be applied in current conditions, as well as in future conditions due to climate and socio-economic changes. The framework’s goal is to establish flood hazard and impact estimates at a hig...
متن کاملCase Study: Flood Mitigation of the Muda River, Malaysia
The 2003 flood of the Muda River reached 1,340 m3 /s at Ladang Victoria and adversely impacted 45,000 people in Malaysia. A flood control remediation plan proposed a levee height based on a 50-year discharge of 1 ,815 m3 /s obtained from hydrologic models. This design discharge falls outside the 95% confidence intervals of the flood frequency analysis based on field measurements. Instream sand ...

Recently, the frequency and severity of natural and man-made disasters (extreme events), which have a high-impact low-frequency (HILF) property, are increased. These disasters can lead to extensive outages, damages, and costs in electric power systems. A power system must be built with “resilience” against disasters, which means its ability to withstand disasters efficiently while ensuring the ...
